August registered 58,775 Canadian households moving into new homes, virtually unchanged from July but down 12% year-over-year from August 2024. The national picture shows resilience despite a softer backdrop, with pockets of provincial strength offsetting declines elsewhere.
📍 Provincial Movers Breakdown
Ontario remained the largest market with 27,576 movers, holding flat MoM but trailing last year’s pace by 17%.
Quebec slipped slightly to 9,165 movers, off 2% MoM and 22% YoY.
British Columbia posted 8,684 movers, up 3% MoM and modestly above August 2024.
Alberta saw 8,176 movers, a 6% MoM dip but still 6% stronger YoY.
Atlantic Canada delivered mixed results: Nova Scotia (1,033, +11% MoM) and New Brunswick (1,204, +15% MoM, +28% YoY) stood out, while Newfoundland & Labrador eased to 391.
Prairies were stable overall: Manitoba (1,225, +4% MoM) and Saskatchewan (1,168, +13% MoM) both improved over July, though still behind last year.
Prince Edward Island saw a strong August with 153 movers, up 20% MoM.
