Cleanlist Reports May 2024 Pre-Movers in Canada

Pre-Mover Intent Data Factoid

Number of pre-movers increase by 90% since the beginning of 2024

In May, Cleanlist identified 74,632 pre-movers in Canada. We reported a notable 16.7% increase in pre-movers YoY from May 2023 to May 2024 and a slight increase in pre-movers month-over-month (5%) from April 2024 to May 2024.

Pre-movers

According to our database, in 2023, the highest number of pre-movers per month was 73,317 in June. This year, Canadians surpassed that number by May 2024.

So, what’s got everyone moving?

Last year, there was still a lot of uncertainty around interest rates and the market. This year, despite projections of a drop in interest rates in June, the cost of living remains less than ideal. The costs of products, groceries, bills and more could be pushing people to move into smaller homes or rent to save money.

What’s next?

Listing a house on the market does not always guarantee a sale or that the homeowner will actually move. Our intent data reveals an interest in moving, as shown by the number of houses on the market. However, various obstacles could influence a homeowner’s ability to move, including the listing price, market conditions, buyer issues, and failed contingencies, Consequently, like any other month, there are likely many people on the pre-mover list for May that may ultimately decide not to move.

On a more positive note, on June 5, it was announced that interest rates dropped from 5% to 4.75%. This could mean many different things for future pre-mover data in 2024:On June 5, it was announced that interest rates dropped from 5% to 4.75%. Why Canadian Home Listing Intent Data Matters to You

Cleanlist tracks Canadian intent data on properties listed for sale or rent daily. This list is called “pre-movers” and they represent households that will be big spenders in the coming months.

Marketers of consumer-oriented products and services stand to benefit most. Families that are planning a move are at the beginning of a large spending cycle that includes everything related to physically moving, financial services, and home improvements like roofing, landscaping, furniture, internet and telecom services, and other related categories. Engaging with these consumers early and promoting solutions is a smart strategy that’s used successfully by many savvy marketers.

How to Get Started

Cleanlist compiles and organizes pre-mover intent data daily for every province in Canada. Our team can tell you how many movers there are in any given geographic area (even small areas, i.e. within a driving radius of a store location) and set you up with a data subscription to receive a mover list every month. Cleanlist can also connect you with a reputable marketing agency and mail house to help you develop your mail and get it delivered. The entire process can be automated and repeats itself with a very predictable and profitable outcome.
